Hey! How'd you do that?

Today I crawled into Phippin's crib with him when he woke up from his nap. I laid down next to him and he hugged my arm to his chest and said "I love mommy." I said "Aww I love Phi.." He interrupted and me, "And Grandma Gina and Car'ene and cousins!" *pause* "And T'avis and Jen and Lori and Bonnie!" *pause* "I love Lori." *pause* "Opa loves you (referring to himself) huh! Opa loves you."

Also while laying in his crib, he started playing "Open, close," a delightful game where I lay down with my feet on the ground and my knees bent. He proceeds to sit on my belly, bounce a little and then open my knees, step through, close my knees back together and then fall head first over the top of my knees onto my belly. Repeat. This time though when he opened my legs and said "Hey! How'd you do that? (if you haven't gathered it by now, he generally refers to himself when he says 'you')"

The other day, when I was taking pictures of us outside, I would say "Mommy is taking a picture." He would immediately stop what he was doing, look at my phone (with which I was taking the picture) and totally cheese a smile. I don't remember ever teaching him that. He just knows he's a star.

A bit of catch up

Phippin amazes/entertains/cheers all of us (family) all the time. It's high time his stellar-ness is documented and recorded.

Things he has said and done since his second birthday (January 21 2013):

Counts to 10....sometimes skips 5


Attempts counting to 20. Gets to 10 and then says "firteeeeen! Fourteeeen! Sefenteeen! Twenty!"

"Hey [insert name of person he is talking to]! Whatcha doin'?"

Walks up to his tent/castle we have built him for the day: "G'day tent. Good to see ya."


"I love mommy. Soo much."

"It's over there on the [couch, bed or whichever place he thinks he left his 'panda bobby' (binky)]"

In reference to food just out of the microwave "ih's not too hot huh."

In reference to potentially spicy "ih's not too spicy huh."

In reference to potentially scary situations "ih's not too scary huh."
